History: Joe grew up in a Japanese orphanage along the coast. He has no memory of his parents, and the only family he had known was the priest who ran the church and his fellow orphans. Joe's childhood wasn't easy on him as he had to endure constant bullying on the streets. He learned to fight and take care of himself because of that, but that didn't stop him from trusting people. While Joe's friends were all adopted, he stayed behind until he was 18. On one fateful night a man working for Black Ghost came to the orphanage that they'd been using to collect children for the organizations experiments. The priest that ran the church had found out about Black Ghost's plans and threatened to reveal them. The priest was killed before Joe's eyes and Joe would be blamed for the murder as when the police arrived all they saw was Joe's hands covered in blood and a knife in the priest's chest.

The police were ready to arrest Joe when the teenager ran for it. He ran to the cliffside, and seeing no other option, cast himself into the sea. It was here, nearly dead, that Black Ghost found him and took him back to their island lair to turn him into the 00 Cyborg he would become -- 009. Cyborg 009 would be the most advanced of all the cyborgs before him. Without being a direct copy of his predecessors, they endowed Joe with the best abilities to make him a strong fighting machine.

Upon waking, 001 prompted Joe to escape simultaneously testing Joe's abilities and allowing the teen to awaken to his own powers. Considering his situation, Joe was understandably suspicious at first, but he decided to trust the 00 Cyborgs and went with them as they escaped Black Ghost. The road from then on would not be an easy one. The 00 Cyborgs would be hunted, too much of a liability for Black Ghost to allow them to live.

Black Ghost sent new Cyborgs after the rebel set, and Joe and the others are forced to continue fighting for their lives. It's during this time that Joe learns the truth about the orphanage he'd been a part of and learns that all his friends he thought had been adopted were taken in by Black Ghost. Some of those friends are pitted against Joe, giving the teen no choice but to try and fight back. He tries to save them, but in the end there's nothing that he can do as his friends recognize their fate and are either destroyed or sacrifice themselves.

Black Ghost is eventually defeated, or so they think. In a fight to the finish, Joe throws both himself and the leader of Black Ghost, Skull, into the core of Black Ghost's base. Joe is saved by 001 as he transports him out of the situation supposedly leaving only Skull to die in the subsequent explosion.

With their foe vanquished, the 00 Cyborgs are allowed to live normal lives. Most come and go as they please, finding odd jobs here and there or visiting their old countries. A few rogue incidents cause them to come together again to defend the world as only they're able to do, but for the most part their existence is peaceful. That is until whispers and remnants of Black Ghosts influence start to crop up again.

As the series progresses, the Cyborg's learn that Skull somehow didn't die when he fell into the core of the base. He was still alive and working through Van Bagoot to start a world war so that Black Ghost could supply the weapons and cause havoc across the globe. Van Bagoot and Black Ghost had taken over the underground country of Yomi where the people had been enslaved by the lizard race of the Sa'tans. Van Bagoot saves the country only to set up his own dictatorship, but despite his cold and ruthless nature, the natives believe Van Bagoot to be their saviour and many agree to follow him. The exception is a set of sisters, actually quintuplets, who are sent to the Cyborgs to be used as spies by Van Bagoot. Bina and Helen explain their people's plight and the Cyborg's travel to the underground world to help save them and defeat Black Ghost once and for all.

Along the way, the group is separated when Van Bagoot attacks them. Joe is among the group that is found by the Sa'tans who are still intent on regaining their lost empire. He's brainwashed by them and forced to fight for their cause to weaken Van Bagoot's army and make it easier for the Sa'tans to take back control. Joe has no choice as he's forced to fight any opponent in his way with a ruthless nature that is completely unlike him. Much to Joe's misgivings, he finds that while he was fighting under the Sa'tans control, he enjoyed the rush he got from battle, something he'd never allowed himself to feel before.

The group manages to defeat Van Bagoot, but Skull gets away in a space ship/statue/weapon that he had had built. Skull plans to use the weapons on board the ship to start the world war. Knowing that they have no other choice but to stop Skull, 001 sends Joe up into the ship alone to minimize their own casualties. There's no going back. Joe knows he'll likely die even if he does succeed as there'll be no way to return back to earth. Still he fights his hardest and manages to defeat Skull. As he's falling to earth, Jet intercepts him and the two fall back to earth with Jet shielding Joe from the majority of the atmospheric damage.

With Black Ghost defeated, and the world in relative peace, the Cyborgs and Professor Gilmore have to decide what to do with their lives. No one is naive enough to think that the peace will last, and if the world needs them again they'll have to have someone lead them. After some debate, in which Jet leaves the group thanks to wounded pride, Joe is picked as their leader. Knowing full well that being forced to live out his life as an 18 year old could cause a mental strain on Joe, and in order to leave him unbiased to what may happen in the world, Professor Gilmore decides that Joe's memories will need to be reset every 3 years. They leave Joe in Tokyo to live his now normal life, with Francois watching over him, and every 3 years they would come back to reset Joe's memories and place him in a new high school so he wouldn't be noticed.

It isn't until 27 years later when a series of terrorist attacks cause 34 skyscrapers to be brought to the ground, that Joe's memories are forcibly awakened by Francois and Geronimo Jr. During that time Joe had continued to live his life without knowing about his Cyborg history or his true origins. It was without a doubt that by this time, Joe's brain was undergoing a major strain, this may have been the reason that when "His Voice" started contacting various people in the world to plan their terrorist attacks, Joe was one of the one's contacted. Though he had no memory of Professor Gilmore, a part of Joe believed the voice to be his, so he listened to it and started to plan his own terrorist attack against the Roppongi Hills building.

It's in that very building, the day of his own attack, that Francois and Geronimo Jr. find him, but His Voice has other plans. An American ship attacks the building with cruise missiles just as Geronimo and Francois make their move to awaken his memories. The ploy works, and while it's too late to do anything about Roppongi Hills, Joe's brought back into the fold.

While the group, currently missing Albert, Pyunma, GB, Jet and Chang, is discussing what's behind the terrorist attacks, Joe reveals that he too had been under the influence of God's Voice and had been planning his own suicide mission. The group is appalled to hear this, since Joe, one of the level headed ones, had been chosen to be their leader and would have never done such a thing. Joe explains how he'd thought the voice had been Dr. Gilmore's and how though his memories had been reset every 3 years, now that they'd been awakened, he remembered each and every time. It was going to take awhile for Joe to sort through all that, but there wasn't time to waste.

The situation escalates as a rogue fighter pilot from America is on a course for Dubai supposedly under the control of His Voice. Jet, now working for the NSA, is hot on the guys trail, but as the NSA and America is suspected of being behind the terrorist attacks their former comrade can't be trusted.

Joe still believes in Jet, even if the cyborg had distanced himself from the group. He takes Francois hostage to get Gilmore to allow 001 to transport him to the fighter jet so he can use his acceleration abilities to find out what's going on and to prove that Jet isn't a part of His Voice nor any type of American conspiracy. The plan works to prove Jet's innocence, but the bomber manages to launch it's attack, firing a nuclear missile and annihilating the city with Joe on the ground.

Somehow Joe survives, and he wakes up on a black sand beach. Prior to his waking, he found himself speaking with a girl he'd known back in Tokyo, Tomoe, who tells Joe that God wouldn't send him a challenge he couldn't overcome. Once he wakes up, Joe realizes that Tomoe was really only a vision sent to him by His Voice -- God.

Back in America, things are getting serious as the government conspires to pin the incidents of Dubai on Jet and the rest of the 00 Cyborgs. Jet ends up controlled by His Voice and attacks the Pentagon while back at the Cyborg's base, they're attacked by operatives from the NSA. All hope seems lost as the group is trapped in the control room with the enemy pounding at the doors. 001 teleports Joe back to the base, landing him on the side of enemy lines so he can use his accelerator to defeat them. With the enemy defeated, Jet contacted the cyborgs to explain what happened on the American side. His Voice has been controlling the organization all along to launch an attack that would reset the entire world by taking over a submarine that would be used to launch a worldwide nuclear attack.

With the group together again, sans Jet, GB and Pyunma (the latter two having been taken by His Voice), the cyborgs suit up to hijack a ship to stop the assault from the submarine. The plan seems to go well, until the very last missile is missed when the warhead's boosters stop firing, throwing off the timing of the interception. Joe makes a final decision. Once again, Joe puts himself on the line, asking 001 to send him into space so he can intercept the missile and blow it up. He knew full well that he's not likely to come back and that this time no one will be able to save him, but for the sake of the world he's willing to give up his life. Luck is not on Joe's side. Once he makes it to the missile, the outer casing blows off sending Joe hurtling through space and away from the deadly weapon. Having heard Joe's plan via their brainwave link, Jet had flown into space intent at first on taking Joe's place and stopping the bomb himself, but now it seems he has another purpose. He grabs Joe pushing him towards the warhead before his thrusters give out and he falls back towards Earth.

Joe cries out Jet's name as he watches his friend tumble back through the atmosphere, but there's no time to grieve. He sets the charges, pulling himself onto the missile and yelling for God to give the human race a second chance. It's in the following explosion as the missile is destroyed that Joe wakes up in Site B.

Site B is essentially a post apocalyptic world. A virus known as the Haze has taken out most of humanity and all that is left are clones of the people that once survived. Joe is one of those clones and while he has the memories of his cyborg life he is not the the cyborg he once was. He's now human and while he's grateful for that, his cybernetic abilities would have proved useful in a world where monsters overrun most of the planet.

Joe and his friends are on a new mission to help stop the Haze and get the world back to what it once was. It's during one of these missions that Joe will end up in the games. What luck to go from one hell hole to another.

Presentation: Joe appears to be your average teenage boy. He likes cars, hanging out with his friends, and would give just about anything for a normal life. He's a nice guy, and does what he can to help people, always giving others the benefit of the doubt. This has gotten him into trouble as his blind trust in His Voice nearly caused him to commit an act of terrorism because he heard it as the voice of a loved one. Joe can run on a lot of faith for the people he cares about, but this doesn't mean he's completely mindless either.

Joe may be trusting, but he's not stupid. He knows how to think on his feet and is not one to be trifled with. Even without his cyborg abilities, Joe does know how to fight hand to hand, as growing up in the orphanage and basically on the streets taught him a lot about how to take care of himself. His time as a Cyborg gave him even more fighting skills and it's during that time that he proves just how quick of a thinker he really is. While fighting 0010 he figured out how to beat an enemy that was quite a bit stronger than him.

He's not one to go down without a fight, and anyone that meets him will see that. He has plenty of courage, and even when the chips are down Joe will keep on fighting even when it seems there's no chance at all for survival.

This is shown not only in the years following his transformation into a cyborg, specifically when he first foils Black Ghost's plans though he knows he may not come back alive, but is repeated 27 years later when he must stop the plan of His Voice. Joe is always willing to sacrifice himself for the greater good, and that's not something that's going to change any time soon.

Motivations: Despite his rough start in life, Joe has always known the path he was meant to follow. He is above all a fighter for Justice and has a strong moral compass in what is right and what is wrong. This does cause some conflict, as trying to survive against Black Ghost meant he had to hurt other's that were like himself, humans turned into cyborgs against their will.

It was also a major point when he listened to His Voice and started to plan a terrorist attack. He knew innocent lives would be injured but because he believed the order was coming from someone he trusted he convinced himself that what he was doing was for the greater good thus tilting the scale. Later when he learned the truth, Joe was upset at himself for having listened to such an instruction and allowing himself to be deceived.

Part of Joe's trust comes from his belief that there's inherent good inside of everyone. Even the bad guy has a good side, and rather than fighting first and asking questions later, Joe always tries to appeal that good nature inside of every person.

Setting: Joe is going to be far from happy to be in this sort of world. He's going to try and find a way to fight back at the powers that be to get all the tributes out of this situation. During the Games themselves Joe will do what he can to come out on top, or at the least not end up dead, but his good hearted nature will probably get him in trouble at some point or another.

SAMPLES
First Person Thread: What…[ Joe sat up quickly from thin mattress he was laying on. The medical scenery of the room nearly sent him into a panic, as for a moment he remembered not the world of Panem, but Black Ghost's lab where he'd first woken up as a cyborg. ]

Where...where am I? Did I...Ah! [ Just as quickly, Joe remembers the last thing that had happened, the searing pain, the blood running down his hands and dripping to the floor beneath him. Looking down at his hands is the only way Joe can be sure they're not still covered in his own blood. He covers his face with his hands a moment later, his shoulders shaking slightly with barely contained sobs. He'd been so foolish. He was lucky he'd survived such a stupid risk like that, and what had it gained him? Come to think of it... ]

How am I alive?

[ The voice comes from the speakers then, and momentarily startled Joe looks up as if he could see the voice that's talking. The words have his sadness turning to anger, fists clenching at his side. ]

You...You think this is some kind of game?! How can you put people through this?! We're humans not some kind of animals! Don't you have any sort of soul?

How can anyone be so cruel…[ Joe wanted to yell, to tell the voice that he'd find a way to stop this, but even he knew better than that. Gritting his teeth he wished not for the first time that he had his cybernetic abilities back again. ]

Just you wait, I'll show you!

Prose: "Hey! Wait a minute! What's going on?!" Joe's not happy to be here. He still feels disoriented from whatever power brought him here and with no explanation he's having a hard time grasping just what is going on. It doesn't sound as if he's going to be getting any explanation from the Gamemakers behind the force field curtain.

The weapons don't exactly give Joe a warm fuzzy feeling, neither does the door on the other side of the arena opening up and revealing Joe's opponent.

"H-Hey, do you know what's going on here?"

The other person doesn't answer, but from the way he's looking at Joe it's far too obvious to the young man that this is not going to end well for one of them. Rushing for one of the knives, Joe's opponent picks it up and flings it at the other boy.

"Whoa! Hey! We don't have to do this!" Joe shouts as he dodges to the side, just barely missing getting nicked by the sharp knife. It doesn't look like his opponent is going to give up any time soon, despite Joe's protest. "Stop this!"

No such luck there. Joe hasn't even tried to go for a weapon yet, and the other person has taken up the majority of the knives. More are being thrown at him and for now he's managing to dodge, until one finally catches him in the arm.

"Ah!" Joe goes down to one knee clutching at his arm and feeling his blood well up between his fingers. He glances up at his opponent, a glare coming over his features. "Alright, fine, if you want it to be that way then you leave me no choice!" Joe darts up from his position, running for the other person. It looks as if he's going to try to rush the other tribute, but at the last moment he drops down to the ground, sliding like a baseball player heading for home and gets past the other person. He turns back to face the other person, shifting his weight and kicking out the back of his knees to bring them down. Standing back up, he wraps his arms around the other person's neck in a strong choke hold refusing to let go and using his legs as leverage to keep the other person from turtling on him or getting back up. He keeps up the choke hold until the other person drops from lack of air, knocked unconscious but still not dead. He's not a murderer, and this place isn't going to turn him into one, not if he can help it. He turns his gaze on the Gamemakers, glaring at them.

Just what was this place?

What is your character scored: 8-Joe has his own fair share of fighting skills and is a quick thinker under pressure. His fault in having to fight without his cybernetic abilities will keep him from having a higher score, as well as his penchant for self sacrifice when it comes to the greater good. Crowd's are sure to like Joe and his nice guy personality coupled with the fact that he's not a pushover. He's always been popular with the ladies whether he recognizes his natural charisma or not.

Abilities as a cyborg:
- Heat/Bullet/Friction resistant skin
- Accelerator - allows Joe to move at speeds of approximately 340m per second enough to render him completely invisible to the naked eye. There's a switch at the back of Joe's mouth that he has to bite on in order to activate it. He can only use it for a short amount of time, but longer than Jet can use his own. Over use of the accelerator can cause Joe's body to wear down. While using the accelerator, Joe is moving fast enough to set light objects on fire and to heat up metal till it's red hot. Everyone around him will appear as if they're standing still.
- Travel in space and underwater without needing to breath for long periods -- Not as long as Pyunma nor can he dive nearly as deep.
- Brainwave link between the other 00 Cyborgs.
